Off the menu sushi at D K Sushi Market
When I lived in South Austin, I frequented D K Sushi on South First St. I didn't even know DK had opened a north location (and it's not listed on their site). Not only that — I ate at the adjacent Mexican restaurant twice without realizing D K Sushi Market was also a restaurant. Turns out it's a market and a restaurant.
It's too-brightly lit, inexpensive (for sushi), and AWESOME.
Beverly and I sat at the sushi bar, right in front of D K. Once he saw how much we were appreciating his food, he got creative and made us a couple of things off the menu.
First was "Moonshine". That's wasabi tobiko and citrus tobiko topped with a quail egg. This is officially my new favorite sushi. Buttery, yummy awesomeness!
Next was "The Real McCoy" — salmon, avocado, mango, strawberry, and jalapeno. It's not usually my style to mix fruit with my proteins, but this was fantastic.
We filled up on sushi, shared a 22 oz. beer and drank a small (12 oz. at best) bottle of Bride of the Fox, a lovely saki served cold. Even with the $20 bottle of saki, our bill was only $80.
I will be back. Frequently.
